His Holiness the Dalai Lama: New York City, October 12/13/14 2007, Radio City Music Hall

The Tibet Center

Kunkyab Thardo Ling (“Land Pervaded by Seekers of Liberation,” otherwise known as The Tibet Center), was established over thirty years ago by The Reverend Rato Khyongla Rinpoche in accordance with the wishes and advice of Kyabje Ling Rinpoche and Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche, the Senior and Junior Tutors of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, as well as Serkong Tsenshab Rinpoche, His Holiness’s Debating Partner. The Center has provided the New York community with a comprehensive presentation of Buddhist philosophy and meditation. Among the programs presented over this period were five visits By His Holiness Dalai Lama, including the twelve day Kalachakra initiation program in Madison Square Garden’s Paramount Theatre in 1991, and two public lectures in Central Park attended by hundreds of thousands, hosted in partnership with our friends, Richard Gere and Healing the Divide.

The Tibet Center has also invited psychologists, neuroscientists, along with scholars and practitioners from different Buddhist traditions, to participate in seminars on the development of the mind. The Center has also partnered with the Temple of Understanding, and most recently Columbia University, to host inter-religious dialogues where prominent masters from different faith traditions have presented their ideas and practices.
